Leadership is really an inside job
You cannot be truly successful until you know yourself :
- what's important to you,
- what your strengths and weaknesses are,
- where you get stuck; and
- what you are passionate about changing.
Real success is knowing your Why. Your purpose. Your compelling north star.
Because if you don't know your Why, you won't be able to keep at it when the going gets tough.
And, as you know, it will get tough.
And as we spend most of our lives at work, this is worthy work to be done in your work context.
"In the end, its impossible to have a great life unless it is a meaningful life.
And it is very difficult to have a meaningful life without meaningful work"
Jim Collins Good to Great
It is called Leadership Development. It is the ongoing process of growing ourselves.
Either as indviduals or as part of a group or members of a larger team.
For the sake of being fully alive. Fully engaged.
So we feel connected to meaning and purpose in all we do.
So our gifts and passions are fully used in service of something bigger than ourselves.
So that we feel fully used, wildly productive and on point.
So we reach the end with no regrets.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
Hunter S. Thompson
Because here's the thing : no team or organization we are involved with will grow ~ unless we are growing.
Transformation happens in the individual first.
